WEEKLY DRILLS


At Amuse Bilingual Club we focus a significant part of the start of every lesson, on Weekly Lesson Drills. We believe that continued repetition of these drills helps students to gain confidence in their English speaking ability and they are then more likely to be focused on and retain the additional new lesson material that follows. This is especially true for our children’s lessons.

The following are lists of the Weekly Drills that we are currently and planning to teach at Amuse Bilingual Club. Additional drills may be created and added throughout the year depending on learning progress.


Self-Introduction
-      Students can say their name and age, where they are from, give family details, their birthday details and some of their likes and dislikes. 

Alphabet
-      Sing the “Alphabet” song independently and with correct pronunciation.
-      Identify and verbalise letters A – Z in alphabetical order.
-      Identify and verbalise nouns to go with each letter in alphabetical order (A - Apple etc.).
-      Identify and verbalise letters A – Z in random order.

Numbers
-      Identify and verbalise numbers 1 – 20 in numerical order.
-      Identify and verbalise numbers 1 – 20 in random order.
-      Identify and verbalise numbers one – twenty in numerical order.
-      Identify and verbalise numbers one – twenty in random order.
-      Count in 10s, 100s, 1000s, 10000, 100000, 1000000.
-      Identify and verbalise random numbers between 1 – 999,000,000 (27, 567, 1002 etc.).

Days
-      Sing the “Days of the Week” song.
-      Identify and verbalise the days of the week in order: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
-      Identify and verbalise the days of the week in random order.

Months
-      Sing the “Months Chant” song.
-      Identify and verbalise the months of the year in order: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.
-      Identify and verbalise the months of the year in random order.
-      Verbalise each month in random order as it corresponds to numbers (6 = July etc.).

Colours
-      Identify and verbalise the following colours: Red, Blue, Black, Yellow, Green, Brown, Purple, Aqua, Orange, Pink, White, Grey.

Patterns
-      Identify and verbalise the following patterns: Stripped, Tartan, Checked, Polka Dotted, Patterned, Floral Patterned.
 
Shapes
-      Identify and verbalise 8 basic shapes with colours: Brown Oval, Yellow Star, Pink Heart, Red Triangle, Blue Square, Green Rectangle, Purple Diamond, Orange Circle.
-      Identify and verbalise 4 intermediate shapes with their accompanying number of sides: Pentagon 5 Sides, Hexagon 6 Sides, Heptagon 7 Sides, Octagon 8 Sides.
-      Identify and verbalise 4 advanced shapes: Pyramid, Cube, Arrow, Cylinder.

Adjectives (Opposites)
-      Identify and verbalise numerous pairs of “opposites” adjectives:

Awake – Asleep, Big – Small, Bright – Dark, Enter – Exit, Fast – Slow, Few - Many, Front – Back, Full – Empty, Light – Heavy, Near – Far, Old – New, Old – Young, Open – Closed, Over – Under, Short – Long, Tall – Short, Wet - Dry, Yummy – Yucky.

Emotions / Feelings
-      Identify and verbalise the following emotions and feelings: Happy, Angry, Scared, Sleepy, Sad, Sick, Confused, Excited, Nervous, Embarrassed, Surprised, Great, Hungry, Thirsty, Hot, Cold, Hurt, Fine, Tired.

Weather / Temperature
-      Identify and verbalise the following weather events and temperature descriptions: Sunny, Cloudy, Rainy, Windy, Snowy, Stormy (It’s sunny today). Scorching, Hot, Warm, Chilly, Cold, Freezing (I’m / It’s hot today).

Nouns (Transportation)
-      Identify and verbalise the following Transportation nouns: Boat, Ship, Car, Bus, Truck, Helicopter, Aeroplane, Taxi, Train, Subway, Rickshaw, Balloon, Bicycle, Motorcycle.

Verbs
-      Identify and verbalise the following verbs (e.g. Blow – Blowing etc.):
Bite, Blow, Catch, Chase, Climb, Crash, Crawl, Cut, Dance, Dig, Dive, Draw, Drink, Dunk, Erupt, Explode, Fall, Fly, Hug, Jump, Kick, Laugh, Launch, Leap, Learn, Lick, Listen, Measure, Play, Pull, Push, Read, Relax, Ride, Rip, Shake, Smell, Spin, Spray, Swim, Swing, Throw, Walk, Wave.

Human Body
-      Sing the “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” song.
-      Identify and verbalise various areas of the human body: Head, Shoulders, Knees, Toes, Eyes, Ears, Mouth, Nose, Arm, Elbow, Hand, Leg, Foot.

Greetings / Departing
-      Verbalise and use the following in the correct context and time:
Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening, Good Night.
